To give your smile the TLC it deserves, the American Dental Association recommends brushing your teeth and gumline daily to remove oral bacteria and dental plaque in the mouth. It is also recommended to brush your teeth daily for at least two minutes each session, twice a day, to fight tooth decay and gum disease.

-Oral Hygiene: Don’t brush hard, brush smart. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush to clean while protecting your tooth enamel and gum tissue. Use a small to medium sized toothbrush head so that you can get into those hard to clean areas in the back of the mouth where bacteria collect.

For maximum results, brush twice each day, floss once a day using the flossing method of your choice. Any method works, as long as you do it. Flossing before bedtime followed by a microbial rinse is a good way to end the day.

-Protection: A mouth guard (athletic guard) provides your teeth, face, tongue, lips, and jaw with the protection they need when you are exposing them to potential injury when engaging in contact sports and high-impact activities. If you have a habit of grinding your teeth at night as you sleep, wearing a night guard safeguard your teeth, gums, and jaw.

-Smile-Friendly Nutrition: A healthy smile is created with the help of nourishing eating habits. A diet rich in the following can supply you with the building blocks of healthy teeth and gums: vitamins, minerals, fresh fruit, vegetables, lean protein, whole grains, nuts, and dairy. To protect against tooth decay and gum disease, limit sugary foods and drinks that harm your smile.

-Professional Dental Cleanings and Exams: Visit your dentist every six months to receive dental cleanings and checkups for optimum oral health. We will not only remove tartar from your teeth and gumline, as well as clean and polish your pearly whites, but will look for signs of decay, disease and oral cancer to provide timely treatment.
